I simply changed the file properties to a PDF file, and then opened it in Adobe Reader with no problems. Word should then be able to read it (assuming you have the 2007-2003 converter installed). is there any other way to resolve that problem?

Note that I'm not saying to repair Office but to uninstall, then do a complete, new, fresh install. Choose Word 2007 and your document will open. I renamed the file in question and it opened properly. I have the same problem and I fixed it using your instructions. I've can't seem to find a solution except for maybe reinstalling Word 97. Just the regfix did it. Even when the document throws msword631.wpc, msword630.wpc or any other error messages, the tool works extremely well to fix the document and extracts all the contents from it with high accuracy.
